I've always been fascinated with people. You can learn quite a bit from somebody when they don't know you're watching, and Street Photography is a great way to capture those rare, candid moments. Some find it controversial, but I just see it as a glimpse of humanity. I never plan on using these photos for profit - which, in the US and Canada makes it completely legal. This exercise is purely for my benefit. Let me assure you that if anybody every asks me to not take/use a photo I took of them, then I definitely would adhere to their wishes.
So, Street Photography is best done without anybody knowing it's happening, which is why I've been practicing Shooting From The Hip, a technique that requires you to hold the camera at your hip while you take the picture. As you can expect, this can be quite difficult (how do you focus when the camera's hanging at your side?!), but with help from this amazing 'how to' I was pointed to on Twitter, I've been practicing!
There will be more to come, but here's my favourite from today.

Natalie and Keely
I had a blast shooting these two lovely ladies during the Trash/Relive the Dress session on October 2nd. I didn't get a chance to work with them at Fort Langley, but at our second stop, Darby Reach Regional Park, we went to town! Here are a few of my favourites:

Trash The Dress - First Look
On October 2, 2010, a group of photographer friends and I headed out to Fort Langley, BC, to take some pictures of ladies in wedding dresses! They'd lived their special days already, but what bride doesn't want to relive the glory of their beautiful gowns?
Here's a sneak peak while I edit the rest. I'll link to the full album once it's finished. Thanks to all the models who gave us their time, so that we could practice our photography!

Beautiful Blooms
I'm a huge flower geek. It's a subject I gravitate towards naturally because of the vivid colours and the opportunity for great detail in my shots. I'd love to shoot with a macro lens (it's on the list of things to buy!) but I'll have to do with the one I have now, which produces some quality shots.
Soon it'll be time to shoot the beautiful autumn leaves but, for now, enjoy these pictures from the spring and summer!
