Street Photography: A Beginning.

I've always been fascinated with people. You can learn quite a bit from somebody when they don't know you're watching, and Street Photography is a great way to capture those rare, candid moments. Some find it controversial, but I just see it as a glimpse of humanity. I never plan on using these photos for profit - which, in the US and Canada makes it completely legal. This exercise is purely for my benefit. Let me assure you that if anybody every asks me to not take/use a photo I took of them, then I definitely would adhere to their wishes.

So, Street Photography is best done without anybody knowing it's happening, which is why I've been practicing Shooting From The Hip, a technique that requires you to hold the camera at your hip while you take the picture. As you can expect, this can be quite difficult (how do you focus when the camera's hanging at your side?!), but with help from this amazing 'how to' I was pointed to on Twitter, I've been practicing!

There will be more to come, but here's my favourite from today.
